When I heard there was a TV series of the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt film ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’. I was dubious because quite frankly the film wasn't any good. Let me explain, I’m not really a fan of movies that involve a lot of guns and little storyline. The film wasn't helped by the off screen affair that the two co-stars were involved in - or maybe it did. Who knows? The only thing that made me watch it was that it was directed, written and produced by the leading actor Donald Glover.
You see, I’m a fan of his other TV series Atlanta - if you haven't already - check it out. Drama mixed with the surreal. It also has the same producer as Mr and Mrs Smith Hiro Murai. Yeah, it turns out that TV shows have multiple producers, writers and directors and the reason for so many is apparently because of time and money. Investors want it in a timely manner and they want the people they’re paying for - fair enough.
I'm currently 3 episodes into Season 1, apparently they haven’t signed on for Season 2 just yet but that could change soon. I know I’d like to watch a second helping of The Smiths.
So, how do I entice you to want to watch this TV series without giving away the whole plot, ending and in-between. Well, good news, I don't know the ending so I can't give that away. Don't you hate trailers, interviews or reviews that give away all the good parts of the show or film? I’ll tell you, it drives me mad. So, hand on my heart, I won't do that.
If you’ve seen the poster, trailer or know the actors you will already know that Mr and Mrs Smith are an interracial couple, which is one difference from the film. This multicultural difference allows for a deeper more interesting viewing without it being labeled WOKE in capitals.
And because there are 8 episodes there's more time to explore the ever changing dynamics of the newlyweds. I mean, imagine being married to someone you’ve never met. It could go either way, an awful, hideous nightmare or he could be the love of your life. But isn't any marriage a mixture of the two?
Mr and Mrs Smith is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
